AboutThe List

A handpicked archive of horror cinema. No algorithmic recommendations. No paid placements. Just films that deserve to be seen, rated honestly, and never forgotten.

Our Story

Me and my friends always struggled to find good horror movies. We'd ask AI and it never gave us what we actually wanted — our taste is specific and AI just doesn't get it.

So I built this site myself, tailored to exactly what we love: filtered by genre, vibe, and what we know works for us. No algorithm guessing. No filler. Just horror that hits the way we want it to.

That's The List — a personal archive that grew into something worth sharing. If your taste runs dark, specific, and a little obsessive, you're in the right place.

What This Is

The List is a curated horror watchlist built for people who take the genre seriously. Every film was chosen for a reason — whether it redefined a subgenre, achieved something technically remarkable, or simply delivers an experience you won't find anywhere else.

Films are rated using IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes scores as reference points, not gospel. A 5.9 on IMDb can still be a masterpiece. A 100% on RT can still be boring. Use the scores as orientation, not instruction.

The 9 Subgenres

Horror is not one thing. The List organises every film into one of nine distinct subgenres — each with its own logic, its own lineage, and its own specific flavour of dread.

Selection Criteria

Every film on this list was evaluated against the same standards. Nothing is here by accident.

  • The film must deliver a genuine horror experience — atmosphere, tension, dread, or visceral impact. Thrillers with a horror veneer don't qualify.
  • IMDb score must be above 5.0. Exceptions are made only when critical consensus (RT) and cultural impact override audience score.
  • The film must have a verifiable trailer available on YouTube so you can preview before committing.
  • Remakes are included only when they offer something meaningfully different from the original. Shot-for-shot recreations are excluded.
  • No found footage films that exist purely to shock without craft. The format is legitimate — the abuse of it is not.

API Settings

Paste free API keys once — they stay in your browser. TMDB powers verified streaming (only shows platforms that actually have the film). OMDb adds official MPAA ratings from IMDb.

How to Use The List

Start on the Films page and browse by subgenre. Use the sort controls to surface the highest-rated films first. Click any card to open a detail view with a full description and trailer link.

Use the Search page when you have something specific in mind — you can search by title, year, genre name, or descriptive words.

Hit + Add on any film card to add it to your Watchlist. Create an account to sync your list on this device, rate films with the community star system (half-stars supported), and browse by Studios like A24 or Blumhouse.

Opens your email client, addressed to thelist@atomicmail.io. Nothing is sent without you hitting send.

What is The List?

A hand-curated archive of horror — films and TV series — with ratings, trailers, content guides and streaming links. No filler, no clickbait. Just the good, the cursed and the unforgettable.

Are these all the horror movies and shows ever made?

Not yet — and that's the point. Everything here is picked on purpose. We're adding new films and series all the time, so the archive keeps growing.

Do I need an account?

No. You can browse, search, watch trailers and read reviews freely. An account just lets you save a watchlist, rate films and write reviews that sync across your devices.

How do the ratings work?

Each title shows its IMDb score and Rotten Tomatoes percentage. Signed-in members can also leave a 1–5 star community rating and a written review.

What's the difference between "Play" and "More Info"?

Play opens the trailer right away. More Info opens the full film page — synopsis, ratings, content guide, streaming options and reviews.

Where can I actually watch these?

Each film/series page lists the streaming services it's available on, plus a JustWatch search link to find it wherever you are. The List doesn't host any video itself.

Is there a content guide for sensitive viewers?

Yes — every film has a content advisory (gore, language, frightening scenes and more) behind the 🛈 button, so you know what you're walking into.

Can I suggest a film or report a bug?

Please do. Head to the Contact page — we read everything.

Can I install it like an app?

Yes. On supported browsers, open Settings and tap "Install" to add The List to your home screen.
